Just how green is a miessence product?

It all starts outside, in various parts of the world, in organic soil that is lovingly and respectfully nurtured. A plant grows in the fresh air and sunshine, is harvested and gently refined through cold-processing, and shipped to the miessence warehouse. It is then formulated on site, mixed or hand-blended with other pure, vital and certified organic ingredients, in small batches to guarantee freshness and potency.

No artificial, lab-generated, potentially health damaging emulsifiers, stabilizers, synthetic preservatives, or fragrances are ever used. Instead, the plants’ innate properties contain these elements – much like they do in the wild to assure propagation and longevity. The potent, powerful, health and beauty promoting formulas are then packaged in recyclable bottles and packaging, and sent to you!

Toxic Beauty

Suffering for Beauty

Historically, women have gone to great lengths for beauty. They have endured chronic renal failure, gout and anemia by using lead based makeup in the Elizabethan era. French Noblewomen in the 18th century went as far as loosing teeth, suffering gingivitis, kidney and nervous system damage by mixing vermilion rouge which was concocted of sulphur and mercury.

What about 21st century western civilization… surely we’ve changed? Apparently not. Chances are your bathroom contains a product or two with the following warning on the label: WARNING! CAUSES IRRITATION TO SKIN AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. CAUSES EYE BURNS. HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED OR ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. MAY CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTION. Prolonged or repeated skin exposure may cause dermatitis. Animal studies have shown target organ effects on the liver and kidney. Persons with pre-existing skin disorders or impaired liver, kidney, and pulmonary function may be more susceptible to the effects of this material.

Chemicals linked to cancer and birth defects do not belong in personal care products yet you’ll find these chemicals have entered our bodies, our breast milk and even our children.  Many of the common brands of shampoo, deodorant, face cream and other everyday products contain these dangerous chemicals.

According to Narelle Chenery, creator of Miessence® and director of research and development at ONEgroup, most consumers would be surprised to learn that the government does not require health studies or pre-market testing for cosmetics and other personal care products before they are sold. In her well-known lectures on ‘Dirty Secrets of the Cosmetic Industry’, Narelle states “The toxicity of product ingredients are scrutinized almost exclusively by a self-policing industry safety committee, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) panel. Because testing is voluntary and controlled by the manufacturers, many ingredients in cosmetics products are not safety tested at all.”

“Consumers believe that ‘if it’s on the market, it can’t hurt me.’ And this belief is sometimes wrong.” Director of FDA’s Office of Cosmetics and Colors (FDA 1998)‏

Known and probable human carcinogens in cosmetics

One-third of all products contain one or more ingredients classified as possible human carcinogens.

Impurities of concern in personal care products

Nearly 70% of all products contain ingredients that can be contaminated with impurities linked to cancer and other health problems.

Unassessed ingredients

89 % of the 10,500 ingredients used in personal care products have not been evaluated for safety by the CIR, the FDA, or any other publicly accountable institution.

Be an informed consumer and read the ingredient labels for pure and beneficial products.
