What are you feeding your hair?

Our Hair Care Ingredients vs. Theirs - Come On, is There Really a Choice?
Theirs:

1. Cocoamide DEA (diethanolamine) can cause nitrosamine contamination, which is a potent carcinogen. Cocoamide DEA is a detergent that causes allergic reactions, including eye problems, dryness of hair and skin, and can be toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time.

2. Propylene Glycol is a petroleum derivative and industrial antifreeze. It’s so toxic that the EPA requires workers to wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles. Because PG penetrates the skin so quickly, the EPA warns against skin contact to prevent consequences such as brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities.

3. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate is used in car washes and engine degreasers – and in 90% of products that foam. Animals exposed to SLS and ALS experience eye damage, central nervous system depression, laboured breathing, diarrhea, severe skin irritation, and even death. Frequently disguised in semi-natural cosmetics with the explanation “comes from coconut”.

4. Suttocide (sodium hydroxymethylglycinate) is a formaldehyde releasing preservative used in many ‘natural’ shampoos. Formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen and is extremely toxic when inhaled or swallowed.

5. Fragrances can contain allergens and senstisers, which can trigger asthma attacks. Fragrances also contain chemicals called phthalates, which are hormone disruptors that can affect foetal development and fertility and damage sperm in men.

6. Ext. D&C synthetic colours are made from coal tar and are certified safe for drugs and cosmetics, but not for food. Toxic coal tar has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal tests, and many people are allergic to it.

Ours:

1. Coco Glucoside an extremely gentle, yet effective, cleansing agent made from glucose and coconut fatty acids. Non-toxic, fully biodegradable and mild on the skin.

2. Certified Organic Aloe Vera has healing, soothing, antibacterial, and moisturising properties.

3. Yucca Juice contains natural saponins that gently cleanse and repair damage to cell membranes of the scalp and skin, helping to prevent nutrient loss.

4. Certified Organic Avocado Oil restores lustre to the hair and hydrates dry and damaged ends.

5. Certified Organic Horsetail Extract is an effective remedy for psoriasis, dandruff, eczema, and similar skin conditions.

6. Panthenol is the provitamin of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). It improves the moisture-retention capacity of the skin and stimulates skin regeneration. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-itching effects. It makes hair easier to comb, reduces hair splitting, improves the condition of damaged hair, thickens the hair, and provides sheen.

7. Bitter Orange Extract is a natural antibacterial agent that acts as a mild preservative in our hair care products.

Sweeten with stevia

A sweet substitiute

Stevia, a sweet herb from South America, has been proven to be a safe sugar substitute. Stevia is 330 times sweeter than sugar, so a little goes a long way. Claiming inadequate safety research, the FDA had long refused the herb from being included on the “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) list. Up until last year, all forms of stevia could only be sold as dietary supplements.

Once the parent companies of both Pepsi and Coca-Cola discovered how to manipulate and patent stevia, however, it suddenly became safe to use as a sweetener and is now sold on grocery store shelves in packets similar to the artificial sweeteners. The FDA reluctantly added the natural stevia extract to the GRAS list as well.

True to our mission statement since 2001 of being: an outstanding enterprise of inspiration, conviction, and integrity that is a force for change towards ethical and ecological business practices while making a positive difference in the lives of our Independent Representatives, customers, employees, and their families throughout the world, ONEgroup has just achieved environmental Gold Certification through GreenBizCheck!

GreenBizCheck

GreenBizCheck is a global technology-based environmental certification program for any company with an office. Office buildings and associated activities are responsible for nearly 35% of all carbon emissions. Their program helps companies to quickly implement sustainable environmental practices which save money, conserve energy, water, resources, and minimize waste. The criteria is rigorous, like training to compete in the Olympics, and so worth it when you win. In this case winning their gold
certification means others benefit too.

Here are just a few of the things that ONEgroup has accomplished:

  • 10% reduction in power – IT (software monitoring and hardware usage), lighting, printers and monitors. Simply put: if it’s not in use, it’s off.
  • 50% reduction in paper usage by them and their suppliers combined. That’s 7 boxes – 38 reams – 19,000 sheets of paper – 2.3 trees per month – or over 25 trees a year!
  • Staff and customer education – our staff asks our customers and shops if they recycle.
  • In-house recycling program and a staff eco-suggestion page on company intranet.
  • Recycled and unbleached paper only used for stationary.
  • Unwanted mail collected and returned to sender, advising not to be sent ongoing.
  • List on company intranet of subscription magazines to be shared.

Certified Organic BERRY RADICAL Superfood

Author: Mooreganics  //  Category: Nutrition, Product Review

It’s all in the purity of the ingredients (certified organic means certified pure) and the ORAC units.

Our ingredients – organic raw cacao powder, arabica coffee fruit, olive juice, pomegranate, goji, acai, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries…

ORAC units: what they do and why they’re so vitally important:
Understanding Damaging Free Radicals and Why We Need Antioxidants
Oxidation occurs when free radicals (highly reactive, high-energy particles) ricochet wildly throughout the body and damage cells. Free radicals can be produced within the body by natural biological processes or introduced from outside via tobacco smoke, toxins, pollutants, and sub-optimal eating habits. Free radicals are believed to accelerate the progression of cancer, cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue, and age-related diseases. Antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables help to neutralise free radicals in our bodies.

The Critical Benefits of ORAC Units to the Health of Our Bodies
ORAC, short for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is a standardised measurement of the total antioxidant power of a substance. Antioxidant power is the ability to neutralize oxygen free radicals. The more free radicals a substance can absorb, the higher its ORAC score. Nutritionists recommend that we consume around 5000 ORAC units per day to significantly impact antioxidant activity in the body and reduce free radical damage. One serving (half a cup) of fruits or vegetables provides approximately 500 ORAC units. If you’re not eating at least 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, you’re not getting the recommended amount of daily ORAC units to mop-up the damage caused by free radicals in your body.

The ORAC (total) score of 1 gram of our Berry Radical antioxidant superfood is 1,175. So one 3.5g serving of Berry Radical contains over 4000 ORAC units! One 105g tub contains 123,375 ORAC units.
