Pick Your Own Fruit and Veggies

Author: Mooreganics  //  Category: Healthy eating, Nutrition

After chatting online with a dear friend, who happens to live on the opposite side of the US from myself, about picking fresh strawberries I thought I would share a great website that helps put YOU (no matter where you live) in touch with local farms.  I have listed PYO Fruit & Veggies in my blogroll as well.  So happy picking and eating too!

What is a virus anyway?

Most people don’t really know what’s meant by the term ‘virus’. Generally, they believe it to be a ‘germ’ that sneaks into the bloodstream to make you unwell. But that’s not even close to the truth. Put VERY simply, a virus is not a living thing at all. It’s a tiny particle of inert genetic material.
Transferred by touch or through the air, this particle enters your body through the mouth, nose or eyes. Inside, it takes over a living cell, by instructing it to ‘clone’ the virus. When the overloaded cell finally bursts, it scatters the virus particles and they begin to multiply.
Natural antibodies, generated by your immune system, flood to defend their territory. It becomes a battle of speed and strength. That’s why it’s s vital to do all you can to strengthen your body’s natural guard against all viral invaders.
A good organic based diet, lots of fresh air, water and exercise, and certified organic probiotic superfoods like MiVitality In-Liven and Fast-Tract give your system the defense boost that can make all the difference.

Yes my kids eat salad without protest.

During dinner last night, my 4.5 year old expressed in her own sweet words why it is so great to have a garden in our backyard.  As she was taking the last few bites of her salad she said, “mommy I think it is better to get lettuce from the garden and not the store because it is fresher.”  Then my 2 year old piped in (also finishing up her salad) with a rather loud, “Delicious!”  I am very blessed to have such a great opportunity to teach my little ones they have a choice when it comes to what they eat.  If you don’t have a garden, check out www.squarefootgardening.com for a user friendly way of gardening.

Falling in love…all over again.

With the rapid growth of  sweet goodness from our garden like beet greens, swiss chard, and spinach (to name just a few) my green smoothies are even more delicious!  I am indeed falling in love all over again. Our family, including two toddlers under 5 years of age have been enjoying nature’s green goodness for almost a full year now.  Last year we used greens purchased at the grocery store and with our increased consumption decided to start a garden in the Spring.  Now with the warmer weather our garden is booming and trying different combination’s is proving very pleasing to the palette. If you aren’t familiar with a “green smoothie” I highly recommend you check out http://www.greensmoothiegirl.com for more insight on this nutritious way of eating.
